A cattle rancher's "typical" year does not exist. With each new year comes new problems; come the calving season, sleep is a gift. When it's time for calves to be born, a rancher must always be ready. The slightest issue could result in a loss, and with ranchers relying on claves to make money, that is not a risk they can take. Along with having to worry about calves, ranchers still have to worry about the rest of the herd. With 90% of ranches being family-owned and the average herd size being 40 head, ranchers cannot risk losing a single cow. A typical rancher has so much to worry about that it is a full-time job.
